Technical Writing Intern

Job Summary

UniKey is seeking an outstanding student aspiring to become a technical writer to work in a hands-on, paid internship. The Technical Writing Intern will work with cross-functional teams in the Product Department on internal product specification documents, technical manuals, and other customer documentation. UniKey internships are ideal for individuals looking to experience a different challenge each day, see the inner workings of a growing company, and embrace a higher level of responsibility and accountability. We are looking for people who take pride in their work and have the energy and desire to make a significant impact in a small, fast-growing company.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Analyzes specifications; designs, develops, writes, verifies and produces documentation for a variety of material, including technical and end-user documentation, such as customer requirements, technical specifications, and controlled information (e.g. assembly procedures, technical manuals)
  • Researches and transforms complex technical concepts, specifications, and procedures into user-oriented information for non-technical and technical audiences
  • Ensures technical documentation is accurate, complete, and meets editorial standards for spelling, grammar, paragraph structure, document formatting, and defining technical requirements in written format
  • Evaluates existing documentation for adherence to standards and recommends changes
  • Tracks and fixes documentation deficiencies
  • Performs other additional duties as assigned or required

Qualifications and Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written documents and reports
  • Ability to effectively present information in written, verbal, and presentation form
  • Ability to effectively analyze and resolve problems - assess a situation, gather data, analyze the data, propose a solution
  • Ability to work both individually and as part of a cross-functional team
  • Excellent grammar, clerical and proofreading skills
  • Excellent organizational, planning and follow-up skills
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Problem solving and analytical skills
  • Actively enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program focused on Technical Communications, English, Journalism or other major with technical writing emphasis
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
